CPU

From the architecture to the core selection, there are many similarities between the two processors. Both processors are constructed using 4nm process technology. However, the TSMC production method was employed in the Dimensity 9000, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is based on Samsung’s 4nm foundry.

Furthermore, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000 are built on ARM’s new Armv9 architecture, which promises greater speed, power efficiency, and security.

GPU

In terms of GPUs, Qualcomm is recognized for customizing the Adreno GPU, whereas MediaTek relies on ARM’s Mali GPU. According to Qualcomm, the GPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 delivers 30 percent faster performance while drawing 25 percent less power than its predecessor.

Dimensity 9000’s Arm Mali-G710 GPU, on the other hand, boasts a 20% performance gain over its predecessor, possibly alluding to the Mali-G77 GPU.

Artificial Intelligence and machine learning

Qualcomm has been the market leader in AI and machine learning capabilities for Android smartphones. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s 7th-generation AI engine is four times more powerful than last year’s Snapdragon 888 while being 1.7x more power-efficient. The Dimensity 9000’s 5th-generation AI processing unit (APU) is four times more energy-efficient than its predecessor.

In terms of performance, MediaTek claims that the AI performance is 50% to 90% faster than last year’s Snapdragon 888.
