The AirTag, a little puck-sized tracking gadget designed by Apple for use with its Find My ecosystem, is powered by changeable coin cell batteries – and determining if a battery needs to be replaced is straightforward. In other circumstances, consumers may not even need to take any more measures to determine whether a battery still has life or has to be replaced.
Instead of a unique battery solution or a rechargeable battery that cannot be serviced, Apple chose a conventional coin cell battery. While it is doubtful that a user will have the CR2032 battery that powers the AirTag around the house, a fast trip to the drugstore or grocery would suffice.
According to Apple, a single CR2032 battery should last roughly a year in an AirTag, and the first one is included when the tracker is purchased. The procedure for replacing a battery is straightforward. However, Apple’s other devices handle notifications and battery status because there is no screen or other means to notify users when it is time to change the battery within an AirTag.
An AirTag cannot be set up without an Apple device. Therefore, it stands to reason that some of AirTag’s functionality depends on Apple devices. The AirTag is supported by the Find My ecosystem, which includes all of the company’s computers that enable location tracking.
Most of the actions that may be performed when using an AirTag occur in the Find My app, which comes pre-installed on Apple devices. The Find My app is particularly useful on the latest iPhones, where the ultra-wideband processor allows the AirTag to be located directionally with exceptional precision.
Any AirTags connected with the user’s Apple ID will be displayed in the Find My app on the iPhone under the ‘Items’ tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap the ‘Items’ tab to see any related AirTags by name, and tap the AirTags you want to see. A new page will appear, displaying all of the activities and information associated with the selected AirTag.
How to Check the Battery Life of an AirTag?
Before you begin checking the battery life of your AirTag, keep in mind that the device must be linked to the Find My app. To offer correct information, your Apple device, an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, should also be linked to Wi-Fi or cellular Internet. You can advance to the next stages if these two prerequisites are met.
- On your Apple device, use the Find My app.
- Navigate to the Items tab.
- Tap the name of your AirTag now. The battery status appears immediately after the AirTag’s name and location.
Apple does not allow you to view the precise percentage of battery life remaining on your AirTag. However, the battery status provided by the Find My app is sufficient to predict when it will need to be replaced.
How to Change the Battery in an AirTag?
In just a few steps, you can change the battery in your AirTag. Make sure you’ve removed the AirTag from the accessory or case it’s attached to before starting the replacement procedure.
- Hold the AirTag so that the stainless steel battery cover is facing you.
- Press the lid down and twist it counter-clockwise until it comes to a halt.
- Take your fingertips off the table. The battery cover will now be raised.
- Pull the top off and remove the battery, then replace it with the positive side of the battery facing you.
- Once the battery has been properly installed, reconnect the cover by aligning the three tabs with the slots on your AirTag and gently pressing it down.
- To signify that the new battery has been attached, the AirTag will now play a song.
- Turn the lid clockwise until it comes to a halt.
Keep the original battery away from youngsters and properly dispose of it.
The AirTag battery is meant to last roughly a year under typical conditions. However, there is no need to be concerned about not knowing when the battery has to be replaced. You may always check the Find My app in addition to the notice.
